Latest reviews of The Dim Sum Bible app for iPhone and iPad
A handful of pretty pics and translations of the name of the dish. Thats all! No recipes, a few lame discussions at start of sections, absolutely nothing worthwhile. Beyond a ripoff in my opinion. Dont waste your money or time on this tripe.
As with just about every other Dim Sum app this is a guide to Dim Sum menu items. I guess the the other review thought this was cook book. It seems fairly comprehensive and honestly the organization is difficult in part due to Westerners generally being clueless on Dim Sum I would say. Most apps are organized by either ingredient such as meat type or preparation style. As a person who called Sui Mai Orange Dots for the first couple of years of eating Dim Sum, I understand why they have somewhat puzzling organization. So I no longer call Gao Choi Bao hockey pucks either! So over all, one of a number of good Dim Sum apps, or as my wife would say- Yum Cha!
The description on the app store says over 200 items which is a misrepresentation. The "about" in the app itself says over 80, which is a big difference. In fact, I counted just under 80, and few of them were what I was hoping to find. I was eating at a well known Boston dim sum place when I downloaded this app - after jokes that there must be an app for this - hoping to find proper names and pics of some of the things we were looking for. Unfortunately this app had little of use to us, not even worth 0.99.
I did find most of the dishes we eat, some not. (No tofu dishes at all that I can see.) As another stated... The Ap description states over 200, not even close! Paid $1.99 NOT .99¢ as advertised !!!!!! I cant seem to find the button for the Cantonese Pronunciation either.... What are the numbers after the simplified Chinese name !?!?!? OK, but not worth $2 if it cant help a non Chinese speaker say the name... Seems like other Aps at least have that benefit.
